Our Story
In 2014, Sonya McVay founded the Post Traumatic Fitness and Rehabilitation Clinic- a sports therapy clinic dedicated to serving veterans and public safety officers, including firefighters, law enforcement, and first responders. What began as a focused effort to care for those who serve on the front lines quickly revealed a much deeper need.
Born out of that mission was the 6 Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to expand access to care for those who often fall through the cracks. What started as grit, passion, and an unwavering commitment to our country’s defenders grew into something far greater, reaching thousands of public safety and military heroes and their families.
As the work evolved, so did the vision.
Sonya recognized a critical gap in the system. First responders navigating workers’ compensation claims and physical therapy were often limited to large network care that lacked personalization, continuity, and a true understanding of the unique physical and emotional demands of the job. In response, she made the intentional decision to dissolve the nonprofit and build something more sustainable, more integrated, and more impactful.
That evolution became The6.
Today, The6 stands as a comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinic designed to bridge the gap between performance, rehabilitation, and long-term wellness. Rooted in our original mission, we continue to serve first responders and military families, but our doors are open to everyone. Because the need for high-quality, personalized care extends far beyond a single population.
We’ve built trusted relationships across communities, working with agencies, families, and individuals from all walks of life, while maintaining the same foundation we started with: treating every person with intention, respect, and a deep understanding of their story.
At The6, we believe care should be proactive, not reactive. Integrated, not fragmented. Human, not transactional.
